What the M.2 slots do on the DXP2800

The DXP2800 takes 2 M.2 2280 NVMe SSDs. You can use them as an SSD cache in front of the hard drives, or create a separate all-NVMe storage pool for active files and apps.

For cache, endurance matters more than headline speed because the cache is written constantly. WD Red SN700 and Synology SNV3410 are built for this. For a pure capacity pool, a good DRAM-equipped consumer NVMe is fine.
